Prayer Letter – October 2012
Working in the local church, updating supporters, and waiting for Bojidar. That’s what September looked like for us….
Latino Ministry Update
I (Brent) continue to enjoy my role as an elder at Grandview Park Presbyterian church. I’ve very much enjoyed working on a cross-cultural team as we seek God together…then take action to get the church’s financial picture in better shape. In the past 6 months, we’ve been able to clean up the church’s finances and get ‘in the black’ for the first time in years. God’s been faithful as we’ve studied his word and put those principles into action. We’ve hired a great lady (Gayle) to help us with monthly reporting and entering financial data. Giving has stabilized and we have 3 major fund raisers planned in the next few months. Now that we have the ‘foundation’ established, we can focus on bigger picture items.
Some of these items include:
*’Pre’-funding our Summer Evangelism Program
*Getting the pastor back on full time salary
*Budgeting for 2013 and beyond for church needs and repairs.
In January, we’ll launch a new stewardship campaign as we share a new 2013 budget.
Stephanie is also quite involved with the church’s ministry. She helps with the church’s local ‘Harvester’s’ campaign in which needy families are able to get food on a regular basis for no charge. This helps us to meet lots of immigrants as well as locals in the downtown KCK community.
Stephanie is also on the planning committee for one of the key fundraisers later in the year at Grandview Park. She is also working on a cross-cultural team and is enjoying it as she shares her God-given gifts with the team.
We also presented an update on our ministry to a long-term supporting church in Missouri this month. We shared about the Latino church as well as the adoption of Bojidar. We were very encouraged as everyone stayed afterward to offer us words of encouragement about the ministry and about Bo.
We continue to wait for the process in Bulgaria to wrap up in the weeks ahead. Today (October 1st) we got information from Bulgaria that another step has been completed. There are just a couple more steps (hopefully completed in the next few weeks) – then we’ll be able to go bring Bojidar back hom. Today, the adoption case worker in Bulgaria sent us an email. She talked to Bo on the phone and he told her ‘I’m going to be an American!!’. We chuckled at this…and it ignited our hearts to want to see him soon :)
Thanks for your continued prayers and support…..
Brent and Steph
