He planted a big kiss on his Russian girlfriend and downed another beer. Over the band he yelled "It’s God’s will for you to start this company in Russia!"
Ok…that’s not the beginning of a typical prayer letter. But….it happened recently.
I (Brent) was on my first trip to Russia and Ukraine for a new venture. I’m working with a couple of other people to start an agricultural services company in Russia and Ukraine.
When you get ‘outside your comfort zone’…I think some uncomfortable things are going to happen (like the interaction with this man). I’m not sure how I responded to him. I didn’t disagree with him. But…I didn’t take the opportunity to point out inconsistencies in his own spiritual walk. And…I think that’s ok. I will see him often over the next few months and will build on the solid relationship that we established during my 3 weeks in Russia. There will be plenty of opportunity to share my faith (in word and action) with him in the months ahead.
I believe God is giving us this new opportunity. It’s a combination of ministry - helping the local IFES (International Fellowship of Evangelical Students) movements across Eurasia…and…business – building this agricultural company.
I’ve been in the agricultural industry a long time. Recently, I counted up more than 30 years of working in the industry (starting in my Junior Highschool days.
Actually… this makes a lot of sense – combining our passions, skills and experience with this new venture. God leads. God gives us opportunities to make choices. We’ve made the choice to ‘dive in’ on this new adventure.
We do need some additional help. We need some people that are willing to help with some of the workshops that we do. You don’t need special experience…you just need a willing heart to help people and a desire to see others serve Christ well. We also need additional monthly finances to cover all the ministry expenses in IFES (16 people at $100/month). I (Brent) will be traveling to Krygystan, The Republic of Georgia, and likely Azerbaijan in the months ahead. We’ll be working with their leadership teams to develop stronger teams to serve better together in ministry.
Thanks for your support through the years – we appreciate it.
