Why did the chickens cross the road?

Chicken Farm

To keep kids in school

Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a  hope and a future."

We believe that God has plans for these young people - good plans for their lives.  This is why we have decided to invest in them.  We are starting this chicken farm to earn money to help them get to school.  We've purchased some young chickens.  This week we are going to purchase 50 more older hens who will start producing eggs in the next month or so.

For now each of the youth takes a shift during the week to feed the chickens - more responsibilities will come later when they start laying eggs, and they will help clean the coop.  (This is the job they are most excited for! :)  ) The youth also meet together to do a Bible study each week with their team leader.

Joselo and I met with the youth a few days ago.  They are so excited to be a part of this team, and eager to get back to school in the fall.

They money we earn this summer will help the youth cover the costs of their school uniforms, notebooks and pencils, etc. next fall.  After that, the money earned from the chicken coop will go towards the transportation costs of getting them to school and back each day.

Thanks to all who have helped get this project started.  If you would like to contribute financially to this project or others like it, please contact me or follow the instructions for giving below.

Community Bible Study (CBS).  On April 9th, leaders from 13 different churches who have CBS classes gathered to pray, encourage one another, share ideas and learn more about how to love and serve the members of our CBS classes.  We had a GREAT time together, each of us leaving inspired and encouraged to seek God through His Word and to teach others to do the same.
Prayer Corner.  This is the time of the year when I start to feel a little drained and really miss family and life in Minnesota.  Even though I'm not working in the schools as a teacher any more, summer vacation mentality must still be in my blood!
Elliot and I are going to travel to MN for a little break mid-June.  Joselo is going to join us when he finishes his classes early in July.

We are looking forward to some time with family and friends, and I am looking forward to attending worship services in English!  We know it will be a refreshing and rejuvenating time, but we have a lot of work to do in the next month before we leave.

Some things that are on our prayer list:
  • CBS. We want to visit as many of the CBS classes as possible to support and encourage pastors, and we want to prepare one church in particular who wants to begin working with the children's materials this summer.
  • Neighborhood Outreach.  Joselo is working to get to know and build relationships with new people in our neighborhood.
  • BibleTelling Camp.  We need to begin to recruit pastors and leaders for the BibleTelling camp we will host in August.
  • Finances.  Start a support-raising campaign to raise $1200 in monthly support for ministry expenses.  Looking for 12 people to invest $100 a month.
A big "Thanks"   for all you do.

We continue to thank God for you and pray God will bless you in all you do!
