Wow, what a month!

Karen was home from out-of-state for Thanksgiving and we enjoyed her being here. We had 17 people at Thanksgiving dinner, including all of our children, except for Eric who was in Ohio. Our two Chinese students were also here. We also had Jeannette’s parents, her brother Brad and one of his sons with his son’s wife and son and Brad’s daughter with her boyfriend. A big celebration for all of us. Brad was surprised by two of his children being here since they usually don’t come to our family get-togethers.
We have several projects we need to do around our home including repairing some rotten windows and getting gutters installed on part of our house. I was working on getting all those things set up before I left for Zambia on October 21. We now have those projects set up, but there is still work to do on them before they are finished.
Don't miss the personal message at the end!
School is underway for Karen and Esther and things seem to be going well for them. Neil III is teaching band at several schools. John has added several music students and is still playing with several music groups. Eric is an assistant football coach with Malone University. Jeannette and I went to see Eric’s team from Malone play football.
The biggest family happening this month was Jeannette and I taking a vacation in Hawaii. Since the 4th grade, when she wrote a 50 page paper, she has wanted to vacation in Hawaii. We spent 9 days on the beautiful Garden Island of Kauai. We stayed in a wonderful ocean front condo and were able to travel over much of the island. We saw Waimea Canyon, the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. We went tubing and saw a lot of different sights while we were there. Neither of us wanted to come home when the time was up. It was a busy time and when we got home, we needed a few days to recover from the pace we kept in Hawaii as well as the jet lag. Jeannette is still tired from the trip and from all she has to do around home. Pray for her to find times to just rest.

It is good to have Theo and Sarah back from their ten week furlough. We are thankful for each member of our fellowship and God's help and strength and blessing during the summer months while Theo and Sarah and the kids were away.
Since I have been out of the country since July 12, I don’t know all that has happened at home since I left. But I’ll give a few highlights that I know.

Several new people have started attending the Sunday services in the summer months. It is wonderful to see unity and growth in the fellowship.
Comings and goings describe our summer break time. Both of our Chinese students left in June to go home for the summer. Yuan left on June 15 and Maggie left on June 26. Yuan will be going to another school in the fall and will be staying with a host family that lives a lot closer to that school. Maggie will be back on August 17, the day Jeannette and I leave for a 10 day vacation in Hawaii. Karen was in Pittsburg for a flute master class for a week in June and left last week for another masterclass/music camp somewhere in New England.

We enjoyed a church picnic and walk through beautiful country side with our fellowship. It was lovely to walk and talk, get to know each other better and the kids got rid of their abundane of energy.
The major event this month was Jeannette traveling to Germany. She spent two week there, visiting Karin, a friend and former co-worker who lives near Stuttgart. She enjoyed the time away and got to travel to many places in Germany via train and spent part of a day in Paris, traveling there and back by train. One reason for going to visit was to find out for certain if her friend Karin was a believer and to share the Good News with her friend if she was not a believer. Jeannette was able to talk with Karin and found out that her friend was not a believer, but that she was interested and wanted to read the Bible. Jeannette shared with her and got her set up with a Bible app on her iPad. Her friend is moving back to the US and Jeannette hopes to be able to share with her more. Pray for Karin.

In children's Sunday School we finished our series on the Fruits of the Spirit. I had an ah-ha moment about the fruits and the vine.
