Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.
Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
In the past week, we had wonderful celebrations at our church for Good Friday and Easter. The new worship leader did a great job with the services, with the orchestra and choir at both services. This year only two of us, Esther and I (Neil), played in the orchestra. John played in the Good Friday service and Neil (III) attended, but they both played at other churches on Easter Sunday.
Karen and Esther were both home from college for spring break at the same time. They enjoyed the time together. Neil (III) and Lori Anne when to her hometown in Washington state for a delayed wedding reception. They enjoyed the trip a lot.
Eric had a good time of ministry and travel with his former football coach during their trip to the Czech Republic to help with a football camp.
We will be traveling in April to Karen’s university to hear her play in an opera and to hear her play her junior recital. We will also hear Esther play in a concert and recital as well.
Jeannette continued this month to work with Sarah on the exegetical check of 1 John. They checked the entire 5th chapter of 1 John. Jeannette is doing a good job at checking scripture with Sarah, and Sarah enjoys working with her “younger sister”, as Sarah calls Jeannette. This is typical of Sarah’s culture, to call non-relatives by kinship terms. This is one way they show respect within the culture. She sometimes calls me her younger brother and introduces me to her grand children as “Uncle Neil”.
I was able to finish chapter 3 of 1 John this month, so that now all of 1 John has been exegetically checked for accuracy. We will do a final read through of 1 John to catch things that still need correcting. In June, we will be traveling to Sarah’s home to work face to face with her and hopefully to work with some of her relatives there in doing a check of 1 John with speakers who were not involved in the translation and checking of 1 John. That will give us a better picture of how clearly and naturally the translation communicates with them. We will also be setting up a new way to work together through the computers that will make the process easier.
In preparation for the final read through of 1 John, I will be converting the romanized writing to a writing system local to the heartland. That will be so that Sarah can easily read the translation of 1 John. I will be doing the conversion in a different way than in the past and so will be working in April on that new way of doing the conversion.
With the push to finish 1 John, we were not able to do any work on Dot’s thesaurus, but that will be on the list to do this month.
- Finish formatting and table of contents for Dot’s thesaurus
- Do conversion of the Romanized to heartland writing system version of 1 John
- Begin read through of 1 John with Sarah
- For Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for our sins
- For the wonderful Good Friday and Easter celebrations at our church
- That we finished the exegetical check of 1 John
- For safety in travel this month
- To finish all I need to do for Dot’s thesaurus
- To finish the final read through of 1 John
Thank you for your prayers and encouragement.
Neil and Jeannette
