Summer Ministry

Our wonderful time of rest in MN with family and friends came to an end, and we returned to the Dominican Republic July 18th.  We jumped right back into ministry when we received the Inverted Arts ministry team on July 23rd and then Phyllis Hostmeier from BibleTelling ministries on Aug. 3.  It has been a great time of impactful ministry.  More about these summer camps below....

Discipleship
Last Friday we also celebrated our last week of our 30-week discipleship class with the six leaders we've been working with in Hato Mayor.  It was an unforgettable experience as we wrestled through all sorts of topics together.  I know I learned a lot and was stretched by the experience.  As we celebrated last week, the youth each shared which topics most impacted or stretched them.  We are thankful to Vince Vaughn from Quarry Community Church for walking us through that amazing adventure.

That was really just the first lag of the discipleship journey, though.  In October, we plan to start three new groups, sending those who just completed the class in groups of two to disciple others.  We appreciate your prayers as we prepare for the next phase of this discipleship ministry.

Inverted Arts Camp
We were excited to welcome Inverted Arts to the Dominican Republic again this summer.  Inverted Arts worked with Mundo de Fe church here in Santo Domingo for the 3rd year in a row.

The ministry Inverted Arts exists to empower disadvantaged youth by helping them discover and unleash their creative voices.  The team did this through video again this summer.

They worked closely with the youth as they wrote, acted, video taped, edited and released their movie about how God and church are a place of refuge for a teenager trying to find his place in a new school -- and a refuge for all teenagers wading through the challenges of life.

We love Inverted Arts - the work they do and the friends they've become.  It's a blessing to have them spend a week with us each year, and a treat to have front row seats in the work they do with the youth.

Inverted Arts believe in these kids.  They challenge and empower them to be themselves and use the natural gifts they were given to create beautiful things for the world to see.  God is glorified through it all.
BibleTelling Camp

The 2nd camp we hosted this summer was a 3-day camp for pastors and leaders - BibleTelling Camp.  Phyllis Hostmeier, a professional storyteller, from BibleTelling ministries came to the Dominican Republic to teach the participants how to tell Bible stories from their hearts -- without memorizing words and without reading from a page.

Telling the stories of the Bible in this way engages the audience and keeps listeners of all ages on the edge of their seat.  We all go away with a powerful story that continues to inspire, challenge and convict us days, weeks and months later.

The most exciting part for me has been hearing from participants after the camp and how much they are already using what they've learned as they teach their Sunday School classes, Bible Studies and in sharing the Gospel with their friends and neighbors.

I'm so glad they found the camp helpful and are using what they've learned. It really makes all the time and effort of planning and organizing the camp well worth it!
Financial Update:
We are still hoping to increase our monthly support for our ministry expenses. As our ministry is growing, our monthly expenses are also growing.  We are asking for an additional $700 in monthly support to meet our monthly expenses.  If you'd like to join our team of financial partners by investing monthly or even making a generous special gift, please let me know.  We'd love to have you on our team!

Thank you for your prayers.  Thank you for investing in us.
God bless you all!
